Root 24-Hour Plumbing and Drain Cleaning Joins Forces with Sustainable Audubon to Enhance Tree Canopy in the Borough

Sustainable Audubon's fall shade tree program is set to add 20 new trees to the borough's existing stock, creating a more environmentally friendly and aesthetically pleasing neighborhood. Aimee Bentley, a representative from Sustainable Audubon, expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative:

"We're excited to begin our fall tree-planting program on October 21. We have worked diligently to secure the support of residents in planting saplings in their curb strips, and we are grateful for their cooperation."

The borough owns the grassy areas between the curb and sidewalk in Audubon, and earlier this year, Sustainable Audubon obtained approval from the governing body to launch the tree-planting program. However, when the borough could not provide funding for the trees, Bentley took the initiative to secure a corporate sponsor, Root 24-Hour Plumbing and Drain Cleaning Inc., which generously donated the necessary funds for the trees and accompanying gator bags.

Chris Kuensel, owner of Root 24-Hour Plumbing and Drain Cleaning, expressed his support for the cause: "We are proud to be part of this community effort to enhance Audubon's tree canopy. Sustainable Audubon is actively seeking volunteers to participate in the tree-planting event, which will commence at 9 a.m. next Saturday morning at the Sustainable Shed located in the Audubon Family Park on Hampshire Road. Looking ahead, Sustainable Audubon aims to apply for a New Jersey Tree Foundation grant in the coming year. Jeanne Mugler, a representative of Sustainable Audubon, added that this grant will enable more residents to have new trees planted in their curb strips. To achieve this goal, they will need to enlist the support of an additional 20 residents who are willing to have new trees planted on their properties. The selection of potential sites will be carefully vetted by the group based on criteria such as the width of the strip, the presence of current trees, and the existence of overhead utility lines that could restrict a tree's growth.
